John Thomas Weighs In on the GOP’s Immigration Detention Dilemma in The New York Sun

Thomas cautioned, however, that resistance to individual facilities should not necessarily be interpreted as declining support for stronger immigration enforcement.
“The real midterm risk for the GOP would be appearing weak on immigration, not building the facilities voters demanded,” Thomas said.
As Republicans navigate the issue heading into November, the distinction between supporting immigration enforcement and accepting its infrastructure at the local level could become increasingly important. The challenge for candidates will be balancing community concerns with a national policy agenda their voters still expect them to carry out.
