Washington, D.C., October 28, 2026 — Nestpoint Managing Director John Thomas joined BBC for a discussion on President Donald Trump's final campaign push ahead of the midterm elections, examining the role of his rallies in mobilizing Republican voters and the key races that could determine control of Congress.

Speaking alongside former Obama and Biden administration official Andrea Flores, Thomas addressed Trump's off-script remarks during a campaign rally in Ohio.

“It's a party. It's entertainment and it's unpredictable,” Thomas said, explaining why supporters continue to respond enthusiastically to Trump's rallies.

Beyond the messaging, Thomas emphasized that the president's most important task is driving Republican turnout in an election where the party in power faces a difficult political environment.

“The only way Trump and the Republicans hang on is by bringing out the MAGA core Trump base to vote who normally would not,” he explained.

The discussion also turned to Alaska's Senate race, where allegations involving efforts to recruit a candidate sharing Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan's name have raised questions about voter trust. The campaign of Democratic nominee Mary Peltola has denied involvement. Thomas warned that the controversy could shift voters' attention away from broader political issues and toward concerns about electoral fairness, emphasizing that “campaigns are fundamentally about trust.”

He predicted that Republicans could narrowly retain control of the Senate while losing the House, with the outcome dependent in part on whether Trump's final campaign efforts translate into additional voter turnout.
