Washington, D.C., October 22, 2026 — A new Nestpoint poll conducted with national pollster David Wolfson showed 54.6 percent of California voters oppose Proposition 40, with only 34.1 percent in support. This measure, which will appear on the statewide ballot this November, would impose a tax on certain assets in California valued above $1 billion.

The results mark a 22.5-point swing from Nestpoint's August poll, which found 48.6 percent of California voters supported the measure and 46.6 percent opposed.

“Voters get it. Capital flight isn’t a theory to Californians as they’ve watched it happen in real time for years, one moving truck to Texas at a time. A 22-point swing in six weeks, with ballots already in the mail, says this measure is headed for defeat,” said John Thomas, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Nestpoint. “When even a deep-blue electorate concludes a tax on the wealthy is beyond the pale, every statehouse in the country should take note.”
