Washington, D.C., January 26, 2026 — On a recent appearance on The Todd Starnes Show on Newsmax 2, Nestpoint Managing Director John Thomas weighed in on the escalating immigration debate, warning that while enforcement policy remains broadly popular, the Trump administration risks losing control of the public narrative if messaging discipline falters.
Thomas emphasized that President Trump’s immigration agenda aligns with voter sentiment, noting that a majority of Americans continue to support deportations. However, he cautioned that public opinion can shift quickly if Republicans fail to consistently frame the issue around law enforcement and public safety rather than political controversy.
“The way the administration is handling the narrative right now — it’s slipping away from them,” Thomas said, stressing that Democrats have sought to reframe lawful enforcement actions as misconduct in order to stall the president’s agenda.
He argued that the central issue should remain the safety of federal officers and the rule of law, particularly as immigration officials face resistance in sanctuary jurisdictions. Thomas pointed to state and local leaders who refuse to cooperate with federal authorities, saying such resistance makes enforcement more dangerous and operationally complex.
Turning to the looming funding fight and the prospect of a government shutdown, Thomas acknowledged that historical trends disadvantage the party in power during midterm cycles. Still, he expressed confidence that President Trump’s ability to shape public opinion could mitigate political fallout — provided the president takes a more direct role.
“President Trump is a master at recapturing the narrative,” Thomas said, noting that recent developments have already forced Democrats into politically vulnerable positions. He cautioned, however, that relying too heavily on surrogates could slow momentum.
Through the exchange, Thomas underscored the strategic importance of messaging as immigration enforcement intensifies and Congress faces critical legislative deadlines heading into the midterm election cycle.
